At first blush Hội An (Vietnam) appears a prosperous hub for trade and tourism. Look deeper and you’ll find people living in extreme poverty, including children with disabilities who receive very little in terms of social assistance. Children’s Hope in Action (CHIA) operate out of the coastal town to provide support services to disadvantaged and disabled children and their families that are typically facilitated by government in wealthier countries. CHIA take a holistic approach, whether that’s in terms of how its rehabilitation programmes are run, or the design of its sanitation systems, or by providing bikes so kids can get to school. The organisation is changing lives in Hội An in tangible ways.
Bill Bycroft and Rachel Turner shot and produced this short clip about CHIA while travelling through Vietnam in late 2015.
